Cotton's Compassion Tees
New York–based Cotton Inc. has teamed with Quincy, Mass.–based retailer J. Jill to launch the Compassion’s In Fashion campaign, aimed at raising funds and awareness for poor and homeless women.
J. Jill has renamed its best-selling item—a satin-trimmed, short-sleeved cotton T-shirt—the “Compassion Tee.” Customers purchasing the Compassion Tee will help Cotton and J. Jill raise money for the J. Jill Compassion Fund, which was founded in 2002 to raise money for community-based organizations that assist women and children in need. For every T-shirt sold, J. Jill will donate $1 to the fund. The retailer anticipates it will sell more than one-quarter of a million T-shirts as part of the campaign.
The campaign also features nine women from across the country who have been chosen for their efforts to help women and children on behalf of community-based nonprofit organizations. The nine women and the nonprofits will be featured in J. Jill’s ads, catalogs, retail stores and Web site. Among the organizations selected are Women’s Care Cottage in Los Angeles; Women in Need Inc. in New York; Housing Opportunities for Women in Chicago; Heart House in Dallas and Austin, Texas; Rosie’s Place in Boston; Ascension Place in Minneapolis; The Women’s Home in Houston; and Work Options for Women and The Gathering Place, both in Denver.
The Compassion Tee will be sold from April through September in J. Jill stores, on the company’s Web site and through its catalog.
