L.A. Fashion Week Fall '05: Pegah Anvarian

Los Angeles designer Pegah Anvarian turned to Manhattan’s winter season as inspiration for her Fall/Winter 2005 collection, which was washed with blush plums, granite grays and inky blacks. She debuted the collection March 16 in a 40-look show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.

While her chosen colors were reminiscent of the hues reflected off New York skyscrapers during a crisp winter sunset, Anvarian’s informal but sophisticated tones had a universal feel.

Her Fall/Winter looks showcased scoop dresses, tweed jumpsuits with mock T-shirts and draped silk dresses that moved with a dramatic flow.Anvarian flipped her details inside out for this collection. In the past, she had kept details inside her clothes, perhaps placing some hot-pink trim on the interiors of silk pieces. For Fall, she proudly displayed details on the outside, adorning pieces such as V-neck dresses with braids and trim.

She also broadened her fabric palette, using materials such as wool tweed and silk bamboo in addition to her typical jersey. And Her Fall/Winter collection introduced eight looks experimenting with pants in a men’s cut.“Women like fitted everything,” Anvarian said. “I like things more loose. I think going into Fall and next Spring, things are going to be more loose.” —Andrew Asch
