L.A. Fashion Week Fall '05: Meghan
Meghan Fabulous celebrated her birthday on March 17 with an eclectic fashion show for the Meghan collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.
Titled “Fashion Es Jesus,” the Fall 2005 presentation drew inspiration from Woodstock; the ’50s through the ’70s; practically every religion on the planet; and Indian, Chinese and Hispanic cultures. At times, one got the sense that an Indian bride and Madame Butterfly had been set loose in a Goodwill shop in East Los Angeles. Bright embroidery and miniature mirrors adorned the torso of a silk halter dress printed in a rich magenta. A black embellished gown gushed out of an orange kimono coverup.
Fabulous introduced coats and began using black as a staple color. One car coat had a lime-green pattern that evoked upholstery; a leopard collar simultaneously heightened the whimsy and subdued the intensity. She also designed a new pant that is, in her words, “the most fabulous pant ever.” Made of pure silk, the pull-on pant has an elastic waist and wide legs.
“I took all these cultures and put them in the Meghan Fabulous blender,” said Fabulous (nee Noland). “I tied it all in by just saying that fashion is Jesus.” —Khanh T.L. Tran
