L.A. Fashion Week Fall '05: Uriel Saenz
Designer Uriel Saenz landed a fashion celebrity on the runway and closed the first night of the P. Ka Bu series on March 14 at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.
Saenz has been part of the independent designer showcase since its launch four seasons ago. This time, Honey Labrador, one of the “Gal Pals” from Bravo’s spinoff series “Queer Eye for the Straight Girl,” walked in the show, which included some of the designer’s signature lush details, such as a layered, looped fabrication, as well as new day looks.
Debuting this season were color-blocked skirts and jackets with modern appliqueacute;d shapes. The appliqueacute; treatment also turned up on a chiffon blouse with satin detailing and horizontal tucking at the yoke. Other new details and styles included a scarf treatment on a cropped blouson top and on an asymmetrical wrapped jacket.
Saenz also added a lofty Angora knit fabrication used for low-slung skirts and strapless dresses belted with strands of beads.
The excitement followed Saenz off the runway as Labrador and fellow “Gal Pal” Robbie Laughlin assessed the show with Saenz and P. Ka Bu organizer Jose Angel for “Xcess/Access,” a new project for Q Network. —Alison A. Nieder
