Canadian Call for Safeguards
Union leaders in Canada are calling on Canadian politicians to implement safeguard measures restricting textile and apparel imports from China. Alex Dagg, Canadian director and executive vice president of the apparel and hotel workers’ union UNITE HERE, addressed a House of Commons subcommittee, saying: “For the first time in three decades, all countries will compete in an unregulated environment with China. Every country in the world with an apparel and textile industry is threatened by this development.”
