Unique Knitwear Designer to Open Boutique
Coryn Madley got in the fashion business to design idiosyncratic knitwear in 2002. She will soon be able to add the vocation of retailer to her reacute;sumeacute; when she opens a 700-square-foot store in Los Angeles during Labor Day weekend.
The store will be located on Rose Avenue in Los Angeles’ Venice neighborhood. The boutique—which will share the same name as her label, Madley—promises to be as unique as her designs.
Madley said she will only open one boutique. The retail space will be connected to a design studio where she and a staff of three will craft clothes and jewelry. “It’s going to be a good public relations tool, and it also will satisfy our artistic pursuits,” she said.
Like many designers who open boutiques, Madley said she decided to open a permanent store to showcase the full breadth of her line.
Since the line’s launch, sales have tripled each year, exceeding $150,000 in 2004, according to the designer, who showcased her collections at Gen Art in 2004.
The boutique will have a minimalist ambiance to drive attention to Madley’s colorful clothes, which retail from $70 to $600. Madley will also sell apparel from designers such as Luxury Jones, based in Los Angeles’ Echo Park neighborhood. —Andrew Asch
