Bug-Free with L.L. Bean
Greensboro, N.C.–based Buzz Off Insect Shield LLC and Freeport, Maine–based L.L. Bean Inc. have teamed up to launch Buzz Off Insect Shield Insect Repellent Apparel From L.L. Bean. The men’s, women’s and children’s apparel will feature Buzz Off’s patent-pending insect-repellent formula, which includes permethrin, a man-made compound that mimics the insect-repellent properties of a chrysanthemum. The odorless, colorless compound does not change the hand of the garments and lasts through 25 washings, according to the company. Buzz Off apparel—which the companies claim repels mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers and midges—is the first clothing line to be registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
