CMC Clarifies Fall '05 Market Dates
California Market Center executives have clarified the Fall ’05 market dates in order to assist buyers in determining which of the three markets is right for them.
bull; The newly added Los Angeles Contemporary Market, set for March 17–22 at the CMC, will feature contemporary resources in permanent showrooms and temporary exhibitors, including ENK’s Brighte Companies show (March 18–21) in the fashion theater. The market will run concurrently with the runway shows at Mercedes- Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios, set for March 16–20, and Designers & Agents at The New Mart on March 18–21.
bull; The Los Angeles Fashion Market, which will be held April 8–12, is the main Fall ’05 market for boutique-store buyers at the CMC. Its dates will overlap those of the Los Angeles Shoe Show (April 10-11) on the CMC’s 13th floor and Pacific Coast Travelers (April 8–12) on the third floor, as well as the Los Angeles Majors Market and Urban Suburban (April 11-13).
bull; The newly added Los Angeles Majors Market, set for April 11–13, was added after the CMC spent several years hosting a similar Spring market in October. The market, geared toward department-store buyers, is held with the support of several Los Angeles buying offices, including Directives West, Bregman & Associates, the Barbara Fields Buying Office and the Left Coast Buying Office.
“We’ve always had the L.A. Majors Market in October because L.A. breaks Spring,” said Karen Mamont, director of merchandise for the CMC, adding that many department stores already send their buyers to Los Angeles in April to work with the buying offices. By establishing the Fall Majors Market, the CMC is creating one central market week geared toward the volume business.
At the same time, the CMC will host Urban Suburban (April 11–13) on the fourth and 12th floors for urban resources already distributed in department stores or for those capable of selling through volume channels, Mamont said.
The CMC will provide hotel shuttles, parking and breakfast for buyers during the Los Angeles Fashion Market and the Majors Market, according to CMC spokesperson Deirdre Mendoza. And there will be buyer registration in the lobby during all three market weeks.
CMC executives are advising tenants to remain open for all the markets, however. “Use every opportunity is what we’ve been advising them,” Mendoza said.
