Fantasy-Inspired Finale
“Fantasy, Folklore and Fairytales” was the theme of the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College fashion show, held Dec. 16 at the college’s downtown Los Angeles campus, and students drew inspiration from “Cinderella” and other familiar stories as well as from such mythical creatures as the unicorn. Raquel Cortez took second place with her rainbow-inspired gown. But it was not all fantasy; the student designers also showed plenty of wearable pieces grounded in reality, including evening gowns and “After-Five” party dresses. Carolyn Hwang and Patricia Fernandez shared the top prize for eveningwear, and Dennis Vitug took first place in the “After-Five” category. Cortez received first prize for swimwear, and Hwang took the prize for clubwear. In the childrenswear and menswear categories, first-place winners were Tanya Kim and Laura K. Solis, respectively. And Oyuki Urquieta received the first-place award for coordinated sportswear. —Alison A. Nieder
