Quiksilver's Ski Gear Goes Camo
If Quiksilver is correct, the ski forecast for Winter will be pink, camouflage and plaid.
The board sports giant debuted its snow collection for 2006/07 on Dec. 6 at its headquarters in Huntington Beach, Calif. And all signs pointed toward the company continuing its several-year-old push to bring the fashion-forward to the slopes.
The 40-look show, which featured 20 Quiksilver styles and 20 Roxy outfits, presented the fashion possibilities of wearing pink camouflage while skiing, or perhaps snowboarding in brown plaid pants. The plaids seemed perfect for the golf course, if they hadn’t been made of nylon and Gore-Tex.
Some outfits made bold color statements, but others were subdued, offering solids or simple camouflage designs with the Quiksilver label.
The ski experimentation at the event, which started with a screening of the sports documentary “As If,” did not end at colors and patterns. Quiksilver’s designers also opted to use materials such as tweeds and twills in some of the outfits.
Audience members included company brass, such as Quiksilver Chairman Bob McKnight; Marty Samuels, the president of Quiksilver’s Americas division; and Steve Tully, president of Roxy. —Andrew Asch
