Lectra Presents Awards to Educators
Technology provider Lectra presented awards to three leading fashion-school educators who demonstrated excellence in promoting technology to the next generation of apparel designers and workers.
The awards were presented at the recent International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) annual meeting, held in Alexandria, Va.
Lectra officials presented Mee-Sun Choi with the Lectra Outstanding Faculty Designer Award for her garment made from hand-painted, nonwoven paper. Choi is an educator at Dongshin University in South Korea. She will receive a trip to Lectra’s world headquarters in Paris and an invitation to attend the Premiegrave;re Vision fabric show in 2006.
The Lectra Innovation Award for Faculty Research went to Jinhee Nam from Oklahoma State University for her research on the use of 3-D body-scanning technology. Nam’s research focused on garments designed to resist hazardous materials. The Lectra Innovation Award for Teaching was presented to Wanda Brown and Rinn Cloud from Florida State University for their collaborative project on the use of digital technology to teach apparel construction. The university has adopted this course, which integrates traditional teaching methods and online technology, into its design curriculum. All three winners earned a $1,000 prize.
This was the ninth time Lectra sponsored the awards program.
“The fresh ideas and creativity emerging from the apparel schools continue to impress the jurists each year,” said Ina Taub, project manager for Lectra USA. “Lectra is proud of its longstanding support of the ITAA, as well as of the accomplishments of the award recipients.” —Robert McAllister
