Discovery of Suspicious Package Leads to Evacuation of CMC
Workers were evacuated from the California Market Center for about an hour on the morning of Dec. 14 after the center’s security officials were alerted to a suspicious, unattended package on the CMC’s 6th floor. The package turned out to be nonthreatening.
CMC officials said that an elevator technician found the object at about 8:30 a.m. Security officials then called the Los Angeles Police Department, which conducted a brief investigation. The building was evacuated from about 8:30–9:30 a.m. Although it was a false alarm, CMC General Manager John Kim said that security officials acted appropriately.
“At CMC, the safety of our building tenants is paramount. I would like to thank the LAPD and our building’s security team for handling the situation with quick and decisive action,” he said, “and we are all relieved that this turned out to be just a bad prank.”
