Stop Staring! Receives Minority Business Award
The Los Angeles Minority Business Opportunity Committee awarded local manufacturer Stop Staring! the Minority Manufacturer of the Year award on Nov. 17 at the Annual Minority Enterprise Development Week breakfast.
The company, owned by designer Alicia Estrada, was nominated for the award by Frances Harder, founder of Fashion Business Inc., a nonprofit mentoring and business-training organization for the apparel industry.
“I’m very proud of what they’ve done,” Harder said of the vintage-inspired-apparel manufacturer. “They established a good market niche and have built the company sensibly using the resources that are available to them,” she said.
Estrada credits much of her company’s success to Fashion Business Inc.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa presented the award to Estrada. “I was so shocked and excited to be honored in this way,” Estrada said. “To me this award goes beyond a glass plaque—it’s an honor and a responsibility and a tool that I can use to further grow my business.” —Erin Barajas
