Levi's and Andy Warhol Get Together
San Francisco–based Levi Strauss & Co. has struck a licensing agreement with The Andy Warhol Foundation that allows the Levi’s brand to create a super-premium collection of jeans, tops, sweaters and jackets for men and women under the name Warhol Factory X Levi’s.
The new collection will showcase the iconography of both the Levi’s brand and Andy Warhol’s pop art. “This is truly a pairing of two great American icons,” said Robert Hanson, Levi’s brand U.S. president, in a statement.
Michael Hermann, director of licensing at The Andy Warhol Foundation, noted that Warhol, “not only wore Levi’s but [also made Levi’s] the subject for a series of paintings.”
The collection, which features the traditional Levi’s fit, is embellished with Warhol’s most famous artwork and quotes. Jeans will retail from $190 to $250, and tops will sell from $80 to $300. The Spring 2006 collection bows at MAGIC International in Las Vegas. —Erin Barajas
