Columbia's Counterfeit Sweep
Portland, Ore.–based Columbia Sportswear Co.’s efforts to stem the flood of counterfeit goods bearing its trademarked name have resulted in the seizure of nearly 80,000 counterfeit products from factories in China. The outdoor sportswear maker worked with officials in Yiwu City in China’s Zhejiang Province to stage a series of garment-shop raids in the region in July. Columbia has expanded its efforts to Vietnam, where officials discovered three manufacturers producing counterfeit Columbia backpacks. And the company’s efforts to thwart counterfeiters in Australia have resulted in the seizure of more than $1 million in fake Columbia apparel.
