Ben Sherman to Open Anchor Showroom in L.A. Fashion District

Ben Sherman Group Ltd. will open a 5,600-square-foot showroom at the California Market Center by December, said Kenneth Loo, entertainment marketer for the burgeoning, mod-inspired line of contemporary clothes for men and women. The space, located on the second floor of the CMC’s A building, will anchor a number of contemporary showrooms that have the same retail moxie as Ben Sherman, according to John Kim, general manager of the CMC.

The new showroom will look much like the Ben Sherman’s New York showroom. It will feature antique furniture, wood flooring and company memorabilia from the swinging ’60s in London. Loo said the Los Angeles showroom will highlight some California influences, such as a Ben Sherman surfboard.

The new place will be divided into multiple showrooms. Loo estimated there will be two men’s showrooms, one women’s showroom, one showroom for accessories and footwear, and another showroom for tailored clothing.

The Ben Sherman line is sold at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s Men’s and in specialty stores such as Active Ride, based in Chino, Calif.; Villains of San Francisco; and The Closet, based in Newport Beach, Calif.

For the past few years, Ben Sherman sold its 1960s, English-inspired clothes from a showroom in The New Mart, but Loo said that space got too crowded. The company had to juggle its tailored line, men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, and footwear out of the 1,200-square-foot space.“It was difficult for two appointments to go on at the same time,” Loo said.
