Low Confidence
Consumer confidence in the United States hit a five-month low, as escalating gas prices detracted from a sense of economic recovery, according to the New York–based Conference Board, which tracks consumer sentiment through its consumer confidence index. The index fell to 97.7 in April from a revised 103.0 in March. The Conference Board’s expectations index also showed declines, dropping from 93.7 to 87.2, the lowest level in almost two years.
