Chinatown Designers Co-Op Store to Open Summer 2005
Joyce Tsang helps design one-of-a-kind dresses for the San Paredes label, but her Sittin’ Pretty boutique should be a store for all seasons.
Sittin’ Pretty is scheduled to open in Summer 2005 at 647 N. Spring St. in Los Angeles’ Chinatown. It will serve as a fashion boutique, showroom and resource center where designers can contract for help in publishing look books and producing fashion shows. “It’s just helping independent designers,” Tsang said.
She and designer Paul Magalad, her partner in the venture, will show pieces from his San Paredes label. Designer Lou Razon and Los Angeles labels W1sdom, Wise One, Rita James and Ernsdorf also will show at Sittin’ Pretty, which will feature from one to eight designers at a time. The designers will show at the venue for at least three months.
Sittin’ Pretty will also produce group fashion shows. While the shows will be reserved for buyers, designers and press, the store will sell the designers’ clothes to the public.Ronald Amodia, a designer with custom denim label W1sdom, said he hopes Sittin’ Pretty will be a good boost for the up-and-coming designer.
“For a small designer who doesn’t have a budget, it’s a great way to sell things and get the name out there,” he said.
The 1,200-square-foot space will sport a spare, industrial look. For more information, call Tsang at (310) 808-8807. —Andrew Asch
