Bebe Teams With Amazon for New Online Venture
Seattle-based Amazon.com’s Web services division will build a new e-commerce Web site for Los Angeles–based apparel marketer Bebe Stores Inc.
Amazon Services Inc. will provide the technology platform, fulfillment center and multichannel call center operations for www.bebe.com.
The direct sales channel grew 95 percent in the third quarter, said Chief Administrative Officer Barbara Wambach. Amazon will build the new private-label Web site using Amazon’s back-end technology and provide Bebe with tools to manage the content of the site. Amazon will handle phone sales, customer service and order fulfillment for Bebe’s online sales channel.
Wambach said Bebe chose Amazon because it wanted a scalable solution that could handle the company’s growth. Bebe currently operates 209 stores.
Amazon powers a number of e-commerce sites for national retailers, including Diane von Furstenberg. The company did not release a timeline for when Bebe’s revamped site will be operational.
