L.A. Fashion Week Fall '05: Samora
Los Angeles designer Samora designed her Fall ’05 collection with the Hollywood starlet in mind. The collection debuted on the runway March 19 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.
The Italian- and Egyptian-raised designer evoked a sophisticated 1930s glamour reminiscent of Marlene Dietrich in a collection of coordinating blouses, jackets, skirts and pants and elegant cocktail dresses and evening gowns.
Samora said she was inspired by the actress and “all the 1930s heroines and all the strong women who are [her] idols.” She added that the collection celebrates femininity and has luxurious fabrications that give a special starlet feeling.
She melded the look of Hollywood glamour with her cultural background to create an exotic, bold palette of amethyst, taupe, tangerine, aqua, wine, gold and black. Solid colors were accented with textures and patterns, including paisley and python prints, velvet, and lace. Viscose fabrications were mixed with silk, cotton and wool. Standout pieces included a black lace short-sleeved shirt jacket with black-and-white python-print details and a matching long skirt, an aqua velvet jacket with a polka-dot shawl collar and sleeves paired with a skirt featuring a shirred waist and side tie, and an aqua-and-gold velvet gown with cowl front and back necklines. —N.
