L.A. Fashion Week Fall '05: Moda Made in Italy
Italian designers Sonia Speciale and Ines Valentinitsch made their U.S. debutMarch 19 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City. The Camera Nazionale Della Moda Italiana and the Italian Trade Commission presented the “Moda Made in Italy” show, which was the first showing of Italian designers during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Itamar Zechoval, Valentinitsch’s co-designer and creative director, and Speciale both said it was an honor to show at Los Angeles Fashion Week.
Valentinitsch’s collection featured a range of black looks accented with colorful graphic prints, hardware, buttons and ribbon appliqueacute;s for a humorous twist. Net lacing inserts detailed black viscose jersey dresses, skirts and dresses had ruffles and patent-leather trims, and graphic calendar prints decorated trench coats.
Speciale’s collection, designed for the woman of individual taste, featured romantic fabrics, including silk jersey, velvet, wool crepe, washed leather, and silk cashmere knits. The collection featured riding coat–and–pant ensembles, monochromatic dresses with matching wraps, avant-garde evening gowns with flower rosettes, and tailored jackets layered over elongated blouses and the designer’s signature long skirts. —N.
