Mall Rats
Shopping center developer Rick Caruso, who developed The Grove in Los Angeles, won voters’ approval to build a $264 million mall on city-owned land in Glendale, Calif. The open-air center will be adjacent to the Glendale Galleria. General Growth Properties Inc., which owns the Galleria, objected to the project and spent $1 million on mailers, phone calls and meetings to oppose the retail outlet in the Sept. 14 special election. Caruso Affiliated Holdings spent more than $1.5 million to reach voters.
