Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: San Paredes
Paul Magalad picked an apropos location to show his Spring ’05 San Paredes collection on Oct. 24. Asian Noodles, a rustic Chinatown noodle house, served up a blend of nouveau and Old World cuisine that enhanced the old vs. new theme prevalent in the designer’s latest line.
Magalad is known for reworking couture techniques into modern interpretations. Examples were seen in silk halter dresses dyed with soy sauce and in blouses constructed from hundreds of pieces of handstitched lace. His signature rough edges stood out on a dark silk/linen halter dress. A persimmon-colored shirt and twill vest with hand-embroidered piping were also among the new looks.
Magalad added to his eveningwear styles by offering short- and long-cut polyester dresses adorned with rows of rosette details.
The collection is small—about 12 to 15 pieces— but it should be enough to appease the designer’s growing base of celebrity clients. —Robert McAllister
