New E-Tailer Focuses on L.A. Designers

Label Los Angeles, a new online shopping resource specializing in apparel from Los Angeles–based designers, has debuted at www.labellosangeles.com.

The site, launched by Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising graduate students Emily Heintz and Katie Bogue, is geared toward shoppers who favor the “L.A. look.” Current inventory includes designs from Eisbar, Dragonfly, Ella Moss, Farmer, Amy Tangerine, Grey Ant, Fresh Los Angeles, Blue Angels, Dead Sexy, Diane Yang and more.

“There are so many great boutiques around L.A., and it’s hard for people to get around to them all, so we wanted to bring the L.A. shopping experience online,” said Heintz, who noted that she and Bogue try to include emerging and established talent.

The co-owners are constantly taking the pulse of the Los Angeles fashion beat, scouting the looks popular in Silverlake and on Robertson Boulevard, Melrose Avenue, Third Street and other locations.

“L.A. designers are edgy. They take risks. It’s more casual and versatile,” Heintz said. “We’re trying to set ourselves apart from the other sites and promote Los Angeles as a fashion capital at the same time.”

Label Los Angeles also provides trend reports and the biographies of featured designers. Orders are shipped within 24 hours.

Heintz said the company, based in the Los Angeles Fashion District, plans to expand into menswear as well as into other women’s lines.

“The challenge right now is to promote the site,” she said. “We use [Macromedia] Flash technology, so it is not picked up by all the search engines. So we’re doing a lot of grassroots marketing.”
