Designers to Make Online Splash With eBay
Every creative business is a mix of art and commerce. But art and e-commerce will be married when eBay Inc., the Internet auction site, hosts a Los Angeles Fashion Week store to raise funds for Fashion Business Inc., a Los Angeles–based educational nonprofit that assists young apparel companies.
The eBay store will mark the first time the San Jose, Calif.–based auction giant will participate in Los Angeles Fashion Week. The company’s debut will be celebrated with an invitation- only fashion show on Oct. 28 at The Standard hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
The show will feature creations from five emerging Los Angeles designers––Hanna Hartnell, Sugar Moods, Timoteo, Glaza Clothing and Becca Swimwear––and the Spring 2005 collection of David Cardona.
The e-commerce fireworks will start later that evening when the store site is launched at www.ebay.com/lafashion. The site will feature the couture of Los Angeles designer Kevan Hall and David Cardona, the streetwear of Lucky Jeans and Von Dutch, as well as the creations of the five emerging designers. The store will be open for two weeks, and bids will start at “no reserve prices,” or $1, according to eBay representative Sravanthi Agrawal.
The store’s profits will go to FBI. But will FBI raise a fortune with this online store?
“I don’t know if they’ll get high prices,” Agrawal said of the clothes. “They’ll get fair prices.” —Andrew Asch
