Stacey Todd: A Classic Engagement
Announcing an engagement is big news, but when Mikela Walter, store manager of women’s clothier Stacey Todd, announced her engagement at the Studio City, Calif., boutique, the declaration didn’t seem out of the ordinary. It’s always family time at Stacey Todd.
The family and the friends of store owner Stacey Feldman—from her college roommates to her dad, retired fashion executive Norman Todd—pepper the boutique’s crowd of shoppers, and the retail mix also seems to emphasize family. While daughters favor the denim apparel of the moment, the store stresses a classic, contemporary look aimed at moms, Feldman said.
“It’s current but without looking like what your teen-age daughters are wearing,” said Feldman, the mother of two teen-age girls.
Consider the biggest-selling denim item in the store—the tried-and-true “Skinner” jeans by San Francisco–based Levi Strauss & Co. Feldman said customers like the cut and the easy fit of this men’s-style denim pant for women, which has price points starting at $110. The jeans are sexy, but the focus isn’t on flash. “It’s for that person who doesn’t want to follow the trends,” Feldman said.
The boutique’s other top seller also mines this classic vein. Tweed jackets are all the rage, and the most popular of the pack is a brown houndstooth version by New York–based RoganNYC ($380). —Andrew Asch
