Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Meghan Fabulous
Los Angeles–based Meghan Fabulous, born Meghan Noland, found inspiration for her Spring 2005 collection in her romantic disappointments and victories.
The 30-look collection, inspired by men whom Noland either had crushes on or dated, debuted on Oct. 29 at the Blu Pinstripe Warehouse near downtown Los Angeles.
A crush on a Grateful Dead fan inspired the “B-Rad Dead,” a hand-dyed chartreuse–and–hot pink silk dress showcasing jade and rhinestone beading and a logo of the band on the midriff.
Noland’s African-inspired “Trechic-ki” shirts featured necklines that almost plunged to the navel. Other pieces, from slip dresses to halters, made statements simply with their colors: neon fuchsia and orange.
Oversize garments, including a leopard-print silk chiffon spa coat with peacock- feather cuffs, drew lusty cheers from the crowd. On the other end of the spectrum, the designer’s modest “Irish Catholic Yankee” dress was constructed out of re-embroidered lace and pearl-encrusted lace fabric. —Andrew Asch
