Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Maggie Barry and Barrymoore
Los Angeles designer Maggie Barry took a trip down the Sunset Strip—with a detour down Silver Lake Boulevard—for her Spring ’05 collection, revealed Oct. 27 during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.
Barry, who also showed her men’s line, Barrymoore, co-ventured with Lee Moore, presented three categories for Spring. In one, she shred gauze for a romantic, punky Victorian look on gowns, skirts, halters and camisoles. The designer created a heavily crinkled and ruched “Marilyn” halter dress, detailed a cowl-neck top with studs and paired it with a flared skirt, and punked up classic equestrian silhouettes with black satin brocade and leather.
In another grouping, Barry unveiled a “rock pirate” theme with camis, ruched leggings, and flirty skirts in satin brocade and lace. A corset top–and–satin knickers combination was particularly noteworthy.
Finally, a “ruffled romantic” grouping featured sheer net dresses with Barry’s signature ruffles. An olive ruched fishtail skirt and matching halter top and a “Silverlake” long-sleeved top were among the standouts.
The Barrymoore men’s collection featured Gothic- and rock-influenced T-shirts with rhinestone cross and eagle emblems. Eyelet jeans and football pants rounded out the line. —Robert McAllister
