Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: California Market Center

Feminine floral looks and Southwestern earthy colors framed the California Market Center’s “Direction Spring 2005” runway show, held Oct. 29 at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

The show featured many of the styles displayed in the CMC’s showrooms, giving buyers the “CliffsNotes” version of what is in store for the soon-to-bloom Spring season.

Soft pastels such as mauve, mint green and lavender were ever present as were bright greens, burgundies and yellows. The show’s styles encompassed everything from feminine dresses and skirts to graphic-print T-shirts, pants, skirts and dresses.

The runway event was divided into eight sections, starting with “Classically Trained,” which featured menswear looks with feminized silhouettes, and ending with “Gentlemen Prefer,” which showcased styles that touched on Southern belle glamour.

The “In Bloom” section popped with floral designs, such as those seen on a Sue Wong green flower halter dress and a French Connection ivory floral skirt. The “Urban Suburban” section evolved into fashions that were a tad more sophisticated.

Urban looks were played off preppy styles and matched with roomy denim pants.

Particularly interesting was the “Illustrated” section, which showcased graphic designs on everything from halter dresses to skirts. —Deborah Belgum
