Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Petro Zillia
Nony Tochterman’s Petro Zillia Spring/Summer ’05 collection was inspired by the folk music of her friends The Ditty Bops.
“I heard their music, and it’s such happy and positive feel-good music, and it just totally inspired me,” Tochterman said.
Amanda Barrett and Abby DeWald of The Ditty Bops played their music during Tochterman’s runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City on Oct. 26, which coincidentally marked the release of their new CD. Models strolled down the runway against a picturesque country-road backdrop while the crowd enjoyed the fun atmosphere and whimsical clothing.
The optimistic attitude of the music was reflected in the designer’s rainbow, tree and floral prints and in cute strappy tank tops featuring slogans such as “Live, Laugh, Love” and “I Love Trees.”
Tochterman showcased white piqueacute; jackets, shorts and party dresses; floral-print blouses, culottes and dresses; heather glen plaid suits; and color-block tiered skirts and dresses accessorized with large sunglasses and quaint bamboo handbags.
The finale was a crowd pleaser of not-so-marketable, but stunning gowns, including a multicolor-ribbon fitted strapless number, a pink-and-green tulle backless gown with Ultrasuede flower patchwork, and a pink Barbie-esque Ultrasuede halter vest with knit detail over a multilayered pleated-tulle floor-length skirt. —N.J.S
