Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Iron
Iron, launched only a year ago, debuted its Spring ’05 collection on Oct. 26 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City. The line made a strong impression with its beautiful, colorful prints, which came from designer Leejay’s original paintings.
“The inspiration for this collection is the element of nature. I drew from nature and the four seasons,” Leejay explained.
The look was fluid—like colors and shapes moving on a canvas. The designer added solids in sherbet hues—including banana, violet, tangerine, pistachio and pink—to complement the prints. The collection, made in silk jersey, featured simple halter and bandeau tops; boyshorts; jumpsuits; ruched-front skirts; and mini-dresses with Grecian-style draping, braiding and asymmetrical necklines.
“Greek history is a really big influence in my life,” Leejay said. “I feel like half of my soul came from there. So I always draw a little bit from that.”
Always seeing the world through an artist’s eyes, he added, “To me, every woman is a piece of art.” —N.J.S.
