Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Heike Jarick
Heike Jarick offered a mix of airy fabrics and toughed-up looks for Spring ’05 during her “Savage Gypsies in the Urban Lagoon” fashion show, held Oct. 26 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.
The German-born designer, who now lives in New York, hit every borough of the big city to bring some urban touches to classic silhouettes. The themes were subtle, and the overall looks maintained some femininity. Jarick used organza, chiffon, gauze and lightweight cotton in aqua, mint green, pink, salmon and white. There were plenty of puffed sleeves as well as gathering and tucking along the waistline.
Among the standouts was a transparent python motorcycle jacket, which the designer showed over a Lurex bikini. A multilayered organza dress offered sexiness and fun.
Jarick dressed up several all-white ensembles featuring tuxedo pants and asymmetrical skirts with hand-crocheted ponchos and capelets. Bolero jackets, kimono tops and dusters added to her gypsy theme. —Robert McAllister
