Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Custo Barcelona
Custo Barcelona designer Custo Dalmau offered the crowds at Los Angeles Fashion Week a lightened, brightened version of his signature style.
The Spanish-based designer, who also showed his Spring 2005 collection at New York Fashion Week, is an artisan when it comes to mixing color and pattern. His collection, shown on Oct. 26 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, featured a lighter palette than in seasons past. There was plenty of dusty pink, pistachio and hazy blue mixed with kelly green and teal. A printed mini-trench coat was rendered in pastel shades of turquoise and pink.
Dalmau added sparkle to his swimwear and men’s and women’s sportswear. The designer offered swimsuits printed with silver stripes and a few pieces in candy-colored sequined fabric.
There was also more than a touch of ’80s influence on the runway. A rugby-striped dress with a deep V-neck worn over a striped swimsuit top and a screen-printed striped mini-dress captured the preppy-punk ethos of the “me, me, me” decade.
