Studio West
Cooper Design Spacesuite 220(213) 622-3736
Shirley Huling painted the walls bright pink in her Studio West showroom. It’s a shade that goes well with the sunset she sees each evening from the showroom’s window. Huling moved her showroom from The New Mart in January to a light and bright 1,100-square-foot space in the Cooper Design Space.
“This was the best move I could have made,” she said. “It’s so fresh over here.”
Previously, Studio West was a co-op space shared by several reps. In its new home, the showroom is all Huling’s.
She has set up shop with a mix of contemporary and young designer labels, including Susana Mercedes, a young designer collection of tailored separates with thoughtful details; Maggie Barry Collection, the Los Angeles–based designer’s collection of ’80s-inspired jersey pieces, T-shirts trimmed with leather and mesh separates; Nikki Chu Vintage, one-ofa-kind reworked vintage tops, skirts and wraps; Rose Pucci, a collection of handkerchief tops and ponchos made from vintage scarves; Oxford Slut, a men’s T-shirt line; Fabuloid, a San Francisco–based item-driven eclectic sportswear line with ’40s-inspired details; Deloris and Maxine Shoes; and Dirty Laundry, a Vancouver-based line of men’s and women’s T-shirts that are both whimsical and high-end. The Dirty Laundry tees are embellished with contrast top-stitching and appliqueacute;s of flowers, birds, skulls, crosses and mud-flap girls.
The showroom will also feature the new Eduardo Lucero contemporary collection, which will mark the Los Angeles designer’s return to the wholesale business after several years focusing on custom designs out of his Beverly Boulevard design studio and boutique. —Alison A. Nieder
