Fashion Week Preview
Los Angeles Fashion Week arrived a bit early and on the Eastside when local designer Andrae Gonzalo introduced his latest Andraegonzalo collection on March 20 at his Chinatown store, Forget It Jake. Fashion followers and a few curious onlookers crowded the sidewalk, angling for the best view of a model-as-dancer in the window and a performance by a trio of dancers-turned-models— all wearing Gonzalo’s designs. The early ’80sinspired, dancer-friendly clothing included a pink gauze mini-dress with a ruffled skirt, a sleeveless screen-printed T-shirt worn with pin-striped trousers and a pink wrap top in gauze over hot pants.
Gonzalo entertained the crowd by discussing how he had come by the adult-themed screen prints on the T-shirts.
“Anyone who gets spam can do this,” he said. “They came to me magically from the ether.”
The designer kept the show short and sweet, telling the revelers: “There’s more where that came from, but you’re going to have to call us. This was all a big tease.” —Alison A. Nieder
