Golden Needle Awards Issues Call for Designers
Organizers of the Golden Needle Awards are looking for emerging designers and established companies to participate in the first annual fashion luncheon and fundraiser for the Thalians Mental Health Center at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the Associates for Breast & Prostate Cancer Studies at the John Wayne Cancer Institute.
Apparel industry consultant and costume designer Ida Myers is organizing the event with Mara Beltrami-New. Myers said she and Beltrami-New want to spotlight Los Angeles’ emerging designers. “We said, ’Let’s do something to get new designers and help them get international recognition,’” she said.
The June 5 event will be held at the Regent Beverly Wilshire hotel in Beverly Hills and will include a runway show and awards presentation featuring up-and-coming designers. A panel of celebrity judges—including The 5th Dimension’s Florence LaRue and designer and fashion arbiter Mr. Blackwell— will oversee the awards.
Event producer Beltrami-New is also looking for companies to participate in the boutique area, which will include men’s and women’s fashions, accessories and gift items. The luncheon will also feature a silent auction.
The event Web site, www.thegoldenneedleawards.com, includes information for designers and manufacturers interested in participating in the fashion show or the fashion boutique, information about sponsorship packages and ticket prices.
For more information, call Myers at (310) 446-3403, or send an e-mail to events@thegoldenneedleawards.com.
