Fashion Legend Passes
Amy M. Spindler, a longtime fashion journalist for The New York Times and its Sunday magazine, died Feb. 27 at the age of 40 after a long battle with cancer. Spindler was recognized as a tenacious reporter who could spot trends and translate the importance of fashion in world culture. She earned the respect of the fashion industry for her critical pieces that attacked subjects like “heroin-chic” fashions. She is survived by her husband, Roberto Benabib; her mother, Sally Spindler; and her sister, Bonnie Spindler.
