CMC Celebrates Sue Wong

Los Angeles designer Sue Wong and her designs were center stage at a party for select buyers hosted by the California Market Center. The event took place June 11 in the CMC Buyers’ Club in Los Angeles.

Wong took the opportunity to unveil her new shoe line, designed to echo the luxurious beaded details of her eveningwear collection. She also announced that she had been selected to be one of the judges for “Project Runway,” a new reality show produced by Bravo TV that will follow a group of designers as they prepare to present a complete runway collection. The designer just completed the uniforms for Princess CruisesLotus Spa and has been nominated for a Dallas Fashion Award.

“Sue has always been defined as couturierquality and style made accessible to modern women everywhere,” said Lorelyn Eaves, vice president of marketing at the CMC, where Wong has a showroom.

“We at the CMC have the distinct pleasure of having [Sue Wong] in our family for the last six years,” Eaves added.

Wong discussed her history designing everything from sportswear to eveningwear, calling it “a great journey.”

“I think people respond to my clothing because they feature time-honored handwork, which is nearly extinct in this country,” she said. “In retrospect, this has been my meacute;tier and my calling.” —Alison A. Nieder
