Lift Line: Elevator Hosts Heike Jarick
The Elevator Gallery, a 1,800-square-foot boutique and exhibition space on Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles, opened in February with an eye toward mixing art and fashion. On July 8, the store hosted a runway show featuring designs by New Yorker Heike Jarick, followed by a two-day trunk show. The boutique/gallery plans to host similar events for designers and artists in the coming months.
About 200 people turned out to see Jarick and her designs, which ranged from crisp, tailored white jackets and trousers in slim and voluminous cuts to skirts, dresses and blouses in layers of sherbet-colored chiffon. There were also somber pieces, including a sheer burgundy peasant-style blouse over a dark trouser skirt and a traditional cheongsam-inspired top made edgy in metallic blue.
