L.A. Fashion District Names Operations Director
Randall Tampa has been named interim operations director for the Los Angeles Fashion District Business Improvement District. He has replaced Brenda Peters, who recently left the organization.
Tampa is responsible for the day-to-day management of the district’s 60-member Clean and Safe Teams, which patrol the 90-block Fashion District for crime and code violations. The district came under fire under Peters’ direction because of allegations that members of the Clean and Safe Teams had charged certain street vendors kickbacks for doing business in the district. According to police reports, the targeted vendors sold pirated DVDs along Santee Alley and other shopping areas within the district. The suspected team members were dismissed and may face prosecution.
Tampa was chosen for his 22 years of law enforcement experience with the Glendale Police Department and his service as the director of operations for the Downtown Center Business Improvement District in Los Angeles.
“We are excited to have Randall join our team,” said Kent Smith, executive director of the Los Angeles Fashion District BID. “He has a great working relationship with the LAPD and a strong understanding of Business Improvement Districts.” —Robert McAllister
