IMG Moves L.A. Fashion Week Dates
IMG, the New York-based producers of Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A., will host its runways shows a full week before Los Angeles Market Week when it stages its events during the Fall ’04 Los Angeles Fashion Week.
IMG has confirmed their fashion shows will run March 24-27, although the venue has not yet been finalized. Last Fall, MBSLA was held at the Downtown Standard Hotel and the nearby University Club, which was empty at the time. There has been much speculation within the industry about the venue move and whether IMG would move its events away from downtown Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Market Week will run April 1-6 at the California Market Center, The New Mart, the Cooper Design Space and the Gerry Building.
Smashbox Fashion Week has tentatively set its dates for March 27-April 2, but those dates are not finalized, according to Smashbox Studios co-owner Dean Factor. Last season, Smashbox opened its shows a few days before MBSLA, but Factor left open the possibility of staging its shows after IMG’s.
“We want to be closer to market because we think it’s in the best interest of the designers to be closer to when the buyer is in town,” he said. —Alison A. Nieder
