Bauer's California Closures
The Spiegel Group, based in Illinois, will shutter three of its Eddie Bauer stores in California as part of the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, which will include the closure of 29 of the company’s 469 Eddie Bauer stores in the United States. Spiegel decided to close the Eddie Bauer stores in Cerritos, Berkeley and Monterey because they were not performing to the company’s expectations. Spiegel expects the stores will close by mid-spring. A provision of Spiegel’s bankruptcy allows the company to open 17 new Eddie Bauer stores this year, but a company spokesperson said Spiegel has no plans to open any new stores in California.
