Retro Lingerie
Inspired by the pinup girls of the ’40s and ’50s, Lucy B. lingerie combines retro style with modern fabrics and fit. The line, which originally began as a swimwear collection sold at Tupperware- style home parties in 1999, is now a lingerie collection sold in more than 200 boutiques nationwide.
“Everything we do is super-practical,” said founder and head designer Michelle Landry. “It’s really fun and fashion-forward.”
The lingerie line currently consists of 12 groups of coordinating pieces in various mesh fabrics, including nylon mesh, nylon/Lycra power mesh, stretch lace and fishnet.
The groups are named according to their look and inspiration, some coming from glamorous movie stars of the past. The best-selling group is called “Jean Harlow.”
Each group comprises six styles, including a bra, boyshort, bikini, thong, camisole and chemise. The “Mimi” group—done in a light-pink mesh with black polka dots, flirty black ruffles, pink pleating and black-and-white gingham bows—also includes a skirt and long pants and comes in plus sizes.
Last December, Landry launched a basics program called “Lace Scandal,” which includes a thong, boyshort, camisole and chemise in eight solid-color stretch laces.
Lucy B.’s wholesale prices are $15 for bras, $7 to $15 for panties, $15 for camisoles and $18 to $22 for chemises. The line is currently carried in Diane Merrick in West Hollywood, Calif., T. Pantages in Seattle and the G.A. Romantic Boutique in Chicago.
