Orange Men
Orange was the color on the runway at MAGIC International’s “Style File” menswear trend show. The shade turned up on T-shirts and dress shirts and as an accent color on color-blocked outerwear.
But orange wasn’t the only trend on the runway at the Las Vegas Convention Center. In “Leather Weather,” trends included distressed and washable styles in shades of chocolate, taupe and whiskey. Black and taupe jackets in leather and suede came in boxy short lengths and longer car-coat versions.
Knitwear trends covered in the “Knit Knacks” section of the show included color-blocked and hand-painted T-shirts and sweaters. Plaids and argyles shared the runway with chunky zip-front cardigans and turtlenecks.
Outerwear trends were grouped in a section called “Chill,” which featured color-blocked jackets and cargo pants in nylon. A few vendors experimented with narrow pants and slimmer-cut jackets.
Suits ranged from traditional two-button styles in understated shadow stripes and checks to a few three-button styles in charcoal and navy pin stripes. Olive turned up in a pair of flannel trousers topped with a herringbone sport coat and in a three-button suit worn with a dress shirt in burnt orange.
Biker and motocross styles got full play in “Full Throttle,” which featured motorcycle jackets in leather and nylon and jeans styles in distressed denim and corduroy.
Mod styles for men included pants in stripes and mini-geometric patterns topped with turtlenecks and three-quarter-length coats. Velvet was a popular fabric, turning up in an austere black blazer worn over jeans and in a three-quarter-length jacket topping brocade pants and a ruffled shirt. There was also a touch of raw-edge details on tailored jackets, screenprinting across the lapel and jacket front of a cregrave;me velvet blazer, and a Carnaby-inspired red plaid velvet suit.
