West Third Street Retailers Mint Holiday Tradition
’Tis the season to block party. On Dec. 9, retailers on Los Angeles’ West Third Street invited loyal and new customers to festive store celebrations with discounts ranging from 10 percent to 50 percent.
Alisa Loftin, co-owner of Aero & Co. (8403 W. Third Street) and one of the event’s organizers, said an estimated 30 retailers participated in the area, which spans the mile between the Beverly Center and The Grove shopping center.
Wendy Freedman, owner of Polkadots & Moonbeams (8367 W. Third St.), said the crowded stores and the large number of retailers participating proved that the street is a shopping destination.
“My block has turned hip around me,” Freedman said. “Now it’s fun to walk here.”
Shoppers proved their loyalty by marching up and down Third Street, much to the delight and surprise of Emily Cameron, a sales associate at Flight 001 (8235 W. Third St.). “Nobody walks more than two blocks in Los Angeles,” she remarked.
Loftin said next year’s Holiday block party could add outdoor entertainment.
The party continued into the following week, when more than 19 retailers on West Third Street—including Trina Turk, Scout and Erica Tanov—hosted another block party on Dec. 14. —Andrew Asch
