Unionbay Taps Anaheim Print Shop

Melmarc Products Inc. has signed a licensing agreement with Unionbay to produce a line of screen-printed tops for the moderate-priced men’s, juniors, boys’ and girls’ apparel label.

The textile printing and embellishment house specializes in high-tech graphics at its 85,000-square-foot facility in Santa Ana, Calif.

“Everyone at Melmarc is excited about the opportunity to work with Unionbay,” said Brian Hirth, Melmarc’s chief executive officer. “Unionbay’s strength has always been in bottoms, and combining that strength with Melmarc’s expertise in tops makes this license a perfect marriage.”

The screen-printed T-shirt collection will debut for Holiday 2004 at mid-tier department stores that carry the Unionbay line, including Kohl’s, JCPenney, Sears and Mervyn’s stores. The 100-piece collection features basic Tshirts, ringer T-shirts, tank tops, muscle Tshirts and long-sleeved basics. Prints are inspired by tropical, preppy, athletic, surf, skate and retro themes. Wholesale price points range from $6.50 to $7.50.

“We are pleased to have Melmarc working closely with us to offer a coordinated screenprinted tops program that will bring the same level of exceptional quality and value to Unionbay in screen prints that we consistently offer in our sportswear lines,” said Cathy Underwood, vice president of licensing at Seattle Pacific Industries Inc., which designs, produces and markets apparel under the Unionbay, Reunion and Sergio Valente labels.
