Women, Not Goddess
Beaverton, Ore.–based footwear and athletic apparel giant Nike Inc. is dropping the goddess in favor of women. The company, which launched its Nikegoddess concept and store in late 2002, announced plans to open a 6,000-square-foot Nikewoman store at the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif., in July. Nike apparently likes the women-only shopping concept but wanted a new name for the stores. The company describes each store as “an interactive experience” in which women can get information about—and buy—Nike products. Nike currently operates Nikegoddess stores in Newport Beach and at The Grove in Los Angeles. In coming months, the company will shift the nameplate of its women-only retail stores to Nikewoman.
