L.A. Fashion Week Fall '04: Samora
Los Angeles designer Samora Olayan based her Fall 2004 Samora collection on European ready-to-wear styles with a touch of exotic inspiration. The designer presented her collection on March 30 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.
Olayan, who spent her childhood living near the Mediterranean Sea before moving to the United States and earning a degree from the University of Southern California, included fabric prints—such as animal patterns—that she said were reminiscent of her youth. She chose a palette of black, beige, orange, cobalt blue, red, gold and brown. A black puffed-sleeve buttoned shirt with copper pin stripes and matching fitted long skirt, an animal-print one-sleeve dress, and a beige-and-black two-hook jacket worn with black pants with copper pin stripes were a few looks that exuded an exotic feel.
Olayan also dabbled in eveningwear with a gold silk crepe satin evening dress and a champagne jacket with a fur collar and cuffs.
