L.A. Fashion Week Fall '04: Mason

Designer Michelle Mason created modern styles with colorful, contrasting fabrics for the Fall/Winter 2004 collection of her secondary line, Mason, which bowed on March 30 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.

Mason drew on themes ranging from preppy looks—with turtlenecks, tweed blazers, skirts and pants—to prairie influences, found in a pink floral high-neck blouse with smocking worn under an olive speckled cape and olive striped denim wide-waistband pants. She incorporated lacing, suede patches and cowboy boots to round out the look. The designer also showed her recently launched Mason footwear collection.

Mason created outfits in contrasting prints, including stripes, polka dots and florals. For example, she paired a black striped shirtdress with black polka-dot cuffed corduroy pants. Colors included yellow, orange, baby blue, pink, mint green, ivory, burgundy, brown, red and black.

The designer showed her technical side with wool bomber-style sweaters with ribbing and ruching. These she paired with denim wrap skirts, blue striped denim pants with wide waistbands and twill pants. A brown bomber sweater with a suede belt worn with black twill pants and a pair of stirrup trousers with built-in leg warmers gave the collection a Scandinavian feel.
