L.A. Fashion Week Fall '04: Custo Barcelona

Custo Barcelona, designed by brothers Custodio (“Custo”) and David Dalmau—best known for their colorful and inventive prints, graphics and mixed-pattern T-shirts—debuted in Los Angeles on March 30 during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City. Custo said they wanted to show the collection to celebrities and the Hollywood stylists that work on television series and feature films.

The collection included a colorful group of women’s fashions inspired by famed ’70s New York disco Studio 54 and the ’80s. The color black also ran throughout the collection and unified the bright looks. “Our personality is very colorful, but the black color is the link in all the collection,” Custo said.

Key looks for women came in black, fluorescent ’80s colors and psychedelic prints and included mini-dresses and skirts, cropped jackets, ruffled tops, trench coats, and vests paired with leggings and catsuits.

For men, the collection included baseball-inspired striped dress pants paired with printed jackets, shrunken sweat shirts, striped sweaters and colorful printed shirts with images of sexy girls. —N.J.S.
